SM BUZZ Week 2B: Accommodating your Consumer's needs with Proper SM Strategies

Let’s take a look at these different hair salons and analyze their social media strategies.

When searching for them on different search engines are they visible?
What social media platforms are they using and how many?
How frequently do they post new content?

Summary & Analysis

First off I would like to mention that all of the websites I chose were the top 100 salons in America, according to Elle Magazine on a article written on July 8, 2015 (http://www.elle.com/beauty/hair/news/a29219/best-hair-salons/). I wanted to get a taste of the best examples, these salons are not on the top 100 list because of pure luck and talent alone. Therefore, all of these salons are on point with their SEO strategies because when I searched for them online they popped up on the suggested searches drop down menu. What I've learned is that even though these salons are popular, there are some who lack consistency in their social media updates. It's interesting because I noticed that some of the links were missing on their websites. I also found that when clicking on a link for a select social media platform it's very important to decide if you want the link to be opened on a separate window or open on the same one you are using. I think it would benefit both parties if it opened in a new window, that way the salon's website is still available. Our attention spans are so short online, so I think it's important to take notice to the smallest details. I also noticed that the salons who focused on 3 or less platforms were more consistent with their accounts, posting daily.

Out of all the websites that I selected the most commonly used social media platforms seem to be Instagram, Facebook, and some sort of blog with a RSS Feed. I also like the idea of a blog on the main page like my first example, The Ramirez Tran Salon. I loved the format of that page and I also appreciated how organized and easy it was to navigate around the entirety of the website. I also appreciated the fact that their Instagram feed was directly embedded onto it's very own page. I think overall these are all great examples of how social media should be used. But, even the best businesses still have flaws. Therefore, we all have a great advantage point. All this information is free and any one of us could combine all the most highly noted examples into a cleverly improvised plan. It takes time to do the research, but I definitely plan on studying more about my competitors and what strategies they use before I launch my new website.

  1. Lena!!! Your blog is so professional in appearance (makes mine seem lame!!). Really love how you pulled in visuals of the websites! I'm going to try that next blog assignment:) I'm commenting outside of my group to you, too, cause my group is running a little late.

    1. Lena,

You have a pretty good summary of these salons and their use of social media. One of the things that I have learned is that proper use of social media can help to increase how a company's site is placed via SEO. So the companies that have their social media sites showing on page one of a search along with their site is really doing well. Keep up the good work.
